Robert Austin Ward, Jr.
Robert Austin Ward, Jr. “Tic,” a beloved iconic figure of Branford, passed away peacefully on June 19, 2024, at the age of 77. He was the son of the late Robert and Hazel Ward. Robert is survived by his son, Dylan Thomas Ward; grandson, Ian Ward; and siblings, Penelope Peterson (Ted), Barbara Neagle (Tom), and Melinda Torelli (Gary).
Robert was part owner-operator of the family business, Ward Bus Company. Generations of Branfordites knew Tic as their bus driver #7. He was raised in the First Baptist Church which inspired him to become an ordained minister, performing numerous heartfelt marriages.
Growing up in Branford, he enjoyed fishing and playing hockey at Ward’s Pond, baseball on Hammer Field, and bocce with the boys at Branford Point. His love for the town of Branford and its people, history, music, and literature was ongoing and shared with many. Watching the Yankees and UConn women’s basketball while eating Aunt Alice’s ginger cookies was his favorite pastime.
Tic, may you stay forever young.
Funeral services will be private at the convenience of his family. Memorial donations may be made to The Connecticut Hospice, Inc. 100 Double Beach Road, Branford, CT 06405. For an online memorial and guestbook, see www.wsclancy.com.
