Susan Gilman

Susan “Sue” M. Gilman of Branford passed away peacefully on June 30, 2024, at Connecticut Hospice in Branford. Susan was born in New Haven on March 11, 1965, the daughter of the late Robert J. Gilman Sr. and Janyce Gannon Gilman.

She worked for Saab USA in the warranty department, before moving to Los Angeles where she was able to work for Rolls-Royce of Beverly Hills doing their warrantees. She met a lot of celebrities and had endless stories. Sue also did acting gigs, from music videos to infomercials and movies. She found the love of stand-up comedy and did that all around Los Angeles and still continued to do so up until May 2023, on her visit to LA. Susan worked for Sony Music publishing for nine years. She got to enjoy all the concerts you can imagine and once again had many stories of working with musicians and celebrities. Her last job in Los Angeles was at Guggenheim Partners, an investment firm. She worked in a high-rise building in Santa Monica on the Pacific Ocean. What a view she got to enjoy every day, watching the dolphins and surfers.

Susan and her mom were very close. It was the two girls versus her five brothers and dad. When she found out that her mom was ill, she decided to come back to Connecticut to take care of her. That’s when Susan decided to get her real estate license in 2013. She had a lot of fun doing real estate. It was always fun showing houses along the Shoreline. But after eight years, she decided that it was not the most relaxing of career choices. She gave up her license in 2020. Susan worked at Gateway Community College, where she enjoyed working with educators and students.

Growing up, Susan was always athletic. She enjoyed playing so many sports. From volleyball to swimming and surfing. Her latest sport had become pickle ball. One of her greatest loves was rollerblading the beaches of Los Angeles with her headphones on. That’s when she felt the most free. Susan’s love for her nieces and nephews was greater than anything else. She would take them on outings and shower them with love. She and her mom spent a lot of time babysitting for them, and they grew a very strong bond. When her mom passed away in January 2023, it was the hardest grief she had ever experienced. She had many friends who were a great support system throughout her life. She loved them dearly.

Susan is survived by her brothers, Robert J. Gilman Jr. of Branford, Michael (Linda) Gilman of Branford, Patrick Gilman of Venice, California, and Matthew Gilman of Branford; and her nieces and nephews: Morgan, Kacey, Stephen, Nicole, Alejandro, Matthew Jr., James and Nora Gilman. She was predeceased by her brother, Stephen Gilman.

Relatives and friends were invited to a visitation on July 7 at the W. S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main Street, Branford, and attended a Mass of Christian burial on July 8 in St. John Bosco Parish at St. Mary Church, 731 Main Street, Branford. Burial followed in All Saints Cemetery. For directions and online memorial, see www.wsclancy.com.
