Barbara Reeve


Barbara “Ginger” Reeve, a cherished member of the Westbrook community, passed away at her home on April 30, 2024. Born on April 16, 1945, Ginger was a lifelong resident of Westbrook, where she played an integral role in shaping the lives of countless individuals. She graduated from Central Connecticut State University with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a master’s degree in early childhood education. She taught in the Westbrook school system for 34 years and retired from teaching in 1999. Even after her retirement, she continued to make a difference as an educational tutor for 12 years, touching the hearts of generations of students. Her commitment to education and genuine care for her students earned her the respect and admiration of all who knew her.

Ginger was deeply involved in her community. She served on numerous boards and commissions, including the Board of Selectmen, Board of Education, the Westbrook Foundation, Youth and Family Services and the Republican Town Committee. In addition, she was a member of the Westbrook Congregational Church.

Ginger is survived by her son Eric Reeve; and her nephew Richard Norton, his wife Jennifer and their two children, Julie and Richard, all of Westbrook. She was preceded in death by her husband George S. Reeve; her parents, Charles and Barbara Christensen; and her sister Lynn Norton.

A celebration of life will take place at a later date. A scholarship fund in her name is being organized, and donations can be sent to The Westbrook Foundation, Inc., P.O.
