Madeline Goletz


On June 11, 2024, Madeline (McGuire) Goletz, 75, of Madison, passed away at CT Hospice, Branford, after a long illness. The family was comforted to know that she passed at such a peaceful location. Madeline was born in Wichita, Kansas, on May 6, 1949, daughter of the late Dr. William F. McGuire and Ella Mae (Frass) McGuire.

She was the loving mother of Peter Goletz (Chrissy Griffin Coombes) of Fall River, Massachusetts, Christina Hollister (Glenn) of Hinsdale, Illinois, and Stephen Goletz (Katie) of Cheshire. She is also survived by three grandsons, Joshua Hollister, Samuel Holliste, and Jude Goletz. She was looking forward to the birth of her next grandson in the coming months. Madeline loved being a grandmother. She was the sister of Camille McGuire of Wichita, Emily McGuire (Steve Yost) of Topeka, Kansas, Eileen Lovell (Mark) of Mt. Lebanon, Pennsylvania, Timothy McGuire of Wichita, KS, Sharon Schultheis (Udo) of Macomb, Michigan, Michelle Hook of Dallas, Texas, and John McGuire of Hollywood, Florida. Madeline was predeceased by her older brother William McGuire Jr. Madeline is also survived by a large number of nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews. She loved being part of a large family and enjoyed annual family reunions. Despite the distance, her family is a close one.

Madeline is a 1967 graduate of Mt. Carmel Academy High School in Wichita, KS. She took a break after beginning college at Wichita State University to return to school at the University of Southern Connecticut. Her college graduation in 1999 was a highlight of her life. Before retirement, she was a stay-at-home mom raising her children. When they became a bit older, she became a longtime receptionist at Shoreline Pediatrics, as well as some retail jobs. Throughout her time in Madison, she was an active parishioner and volunteer at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church in Madison. She also volunteered with Meals on Wheels and at a soup kitchen. Throughout her life, she enjoyed spending time with friends and family, puzzles, reading, and playing bridge. As she got older, she also enjoyed going to the town Senior Center. She was always very social and enjoyed spending time with others.

Friends are invited to a Rosary at 4 p.m. on Thursday, June 20, at the Guilford Funeral Home, 115 Church Street, Guilford. Calling hours will continue after the Rosary until 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 21, at St. Margaret R.C. Church, 24 Academy Street, Madison. Burial will follow in West Cemetery, 71 Jannas Lane, Madison.
