Barbara Levine

Barbara Ann Matheis Levine, 69, of North Haven, passed peacefully after a valiant battle against a lengthy illness on June 12, 2024 at Twin Maples Health Care facility in Durham. She was born Nov. 10, 1954, in Champaign, Illinois, to the late John Gerald Matheis Sr. and Jennie Adeline Matheis. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her beloved husband, Bruce D. Levine; daughter, Kelly Anne Fee; and brother-in-law, Michael Parisella.

Barbara retired in 2020 after working as the director of human resources and governance for the Connecticut State Medical Society. In addition to reading through her extensive personal library, her retirement gave her time to indulge in her passion as a women’s basketball fan. She was a season ticket holder for both the UConn women’s basketball team and the WNBA’s Connecticut Sun. This passion she shared and passed on to many of her grandchildren.

The biggest priority in life for Barbara was the love of her family. She is survived by her children: Scott Fee (Jennifer) of North Haven; April Benavides (René) of Wallingford; Amy Limmer (Jim) of East Hampton; and Rev. Daniel Levine of Fishkill, New York. She is also survived by her brother, John Matheis Jr. (Lori Spurvey) of New Britain, and sister, Christine Parisella of Cooksville, Illinois. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren whom she adored and supported in any way she could: Bryonna Geiste, Abigail Cote, Alexander Benavides, Isabela Benavides, Nicholas Pellow, Emelia Fee, Bethany Limmer, JT Limmer, Matthew Fee, Bayleigh Pellow, Brandon Benavides, and Adeline Fee.

Relatives and friends were invited to go directly to Faith United Methodist Church, 81 Clintonville Road, North Haven, on June 20 for a funeral service and were also invited to attend the committal service immediately following in the Beaverdale Memorial Park in New Haven. The visiting hours were on June 19 at The Havens Family North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Faith United Methodist Church, 81 Clintonville Road, North Haven, CT 06473. www.northhavenfuneral.com.
