Helen Olsen


Helen L. Woliver Olsen, 75, a resident of North Haven for over 50 years, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 31, 2024, at MidState Medical Center, Meriden surrounded by family. She was the beloved wife of the late Robert H. Olsen. Helen was born in New Haven on Oct. 19, 1948, and was the daughter of the late George and Valentina Vansak Woliver Jr.

She was the mother of Christina (Richard) Gagne and Richard (Zuly) Copeland Jr.; grandmother of Samantha (Jaroslaw) Fraczek; sister of Alexia (Timothy) Tassmer, George Woliver III, Sharon Beaudoin, and the late Georgina Grestini. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her nephew, George Jerry Novak III.

She was a graduate of North Haven High School and later furthered her education at Gateway Community College. Helen was a devoted parishioner of SS. Peter & Paul Orthodox Church in Meriden. She had worked as a claim processor at Blue Cross Blue Shield for many years. Helen appreciated and looked forward to crafting and her many visits with her cousin Edna Kopylec Betzner. She also enjoyed her frequent visits with her nieces, Laura Grestini, Natasha (Mario) Sousa, and Veronica Tassmer, great-nephews and great-nieces Kelso, Stuart, Annabell, Cora, Timothy, and Evelynn.

To the family and friend’s past, present and those who have gone before, thank you for being a part of Helen’s life. There are too many to mention who touched her life. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Regency House and Midstate Medical Center for all their care and compassion over the years.

The visiting hours were on June 6 at The Havens Family, North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue. A Panaida service was conducted in the funeral home. Family and friends were invited to go directly to SS. Peter & Paul Orthodox Church, 54 Park Avenue, Meriden, on June 7 to attend a service of Christian burial and were also invited to attend the committal service immediately following in Northford Cemetery.
