Francis Silverman

Francis E. Silverman, age 90, passed away peacefully on Tuesday evening, May 28, 2024, at RoseCrest Assisted Living in Mars, Pennsylvania. Born Sept. 8, 1933, in New Haven, to the late Nathan and Loraine Hurlburt Silverman. He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Delucia Silverman; his son, Scott Silverman; his two brothers, David Schwartz and Robert O’Brien; and his sister, Marjorie DelGuidice. He is survived by his sisters-in-law, Barbara Schwartz and Marilyn O’Brien.

Frank joined the United States Army where he served his country during the Korean War from 1951 to 1954. He was a medic at Fitzsimons Army Hospital in Aurora, Colorado, and was then stationed in Paris, France. Upon his return to the States, he opened a restaurant in New Haven, and then Morris Cove, where he eventually met and married his beloved wife Evelyn in 1956.

In 1978, he accepted a sales position with the Knights of Columbus. He had great success and was promoted to general agent for the state of Connecticut in 1983. He continued to do great things with the Knights until his retirement in 1999. Apart from his employment at the K of C, Frank was also an active member on the fraternal side of the Knights. He loved to volunteer for any task whether it was starting a new council, supporting the Tootsie Roll drive or hosting coffee and donuts after Mass. He was very involved with the St. George Church Council where he was proud to be a 4th degree member.

Frank loved to split his time in Deerfield Beach, Florida, with his wife Evelyn during the Connecticut winters. And in the summer months, you may have seen them both walking the beautiful Guilford Green or reading at the library. Frank had many gifts, but his ability to connect with people was special. You immediately felt seen and heard if you had the pleasure of speaking to Frank. Building relationships and meaningful conversation were something he valued. He had the amazing gift of bringing a positive outlook into any situation. Friends, family, and strangers benefited from his kindness and wisdom. He was truly a bright light to many.

Surviving are two daughters, Lynn DeMarco (Dan) of Guilford and Jillian Gill (Brandon) of Gibsonia, Pennsylvania, and a son, Glenn Silverman (Michele) of Guilford. Frank was also a loving grandfather to Zach DeMarco (Alexa) of Warrensburg, Missouri, Lauren DeMarco of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Grant and Pierce Silverman of Guilford, and Jacqueline and Maxine Gill of Gibsonia, Pennsylvania; also a great-grandfather to Oliver and Luca DeMarco.

Family and friends are invited to calling hours from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, June 28, at the Guilford Funeral home, 115 Church Street, Guilford. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 29, at St. George Church, 33 Whitfield Street, Guilford. Burial will be held privately at All Saints Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. George Catholic Church in Guilford. To share a memory or leave condolences, visit www.guilfordfuneralhome.com.
