Daniel Merriam


Daniel A. Merriam, 37, of North Haven, passed away peacefully and unexpectedly on June 7, 2024, at Hartford Hospital with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Charleen Briette Merriam and loving father to his precious son, Connor Angelo Merriam. Daniel was born in New Haven on April 17, 1987, and was the son of Daniel F. Merriam and Barbara Raccio Kovacs and the stepson of Gregory Kovacs and Teri Macri-Merriam. He was the brother of Emily Merriam and Christine Hawkins (Michael) and the stepbrother of Kristen and Peter Kovacs. He is also survived by many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and many friends.

He was a 2005 graduate of North Haven High School, where he excelled in swimming and diving, track and field, and football. He played saxophone in the school band and was a member of the school’s drama club. Daniel was a member of Boy Scout Troop #401, where he earned his Eagle Scout in 2005. He graduated from Western New England College, where he played football for four years. He earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice with a minor in forensic science. He earned his paramedic certification from Broward College in Florida. Daniel worked as an EMT, then later as a paramedic for AMR, and most recently, was employed by Nelson Ambulance. Daniel enjoyed playing paintball, golf, and cooking, especially on his smoker.

The visiting hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 14, at The Havens Family North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue. Friends are invited to go at 10 a.m. on Saturday morning, June 15, directly to St. Elizabeth of the Trinity Parish at St. Therese Church, 555 Middletown Avenue, North Haven, to attend a Mass of Christian burial and are also invited to attend the Committal service immediately following in All Saints Cemetery.
