William Ernest Osborne

March 26, 1936 — May 19, 2024

Bill Osborne, a devoted husband, loving father, and respected engineer, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2024, at the age of 88. He leaves behind a legacy of integrity, innovation, and compassion.

Born in Strongsville, Ohio, on March 26, 1936, to Eston and Anne Osborne, Bill’s journey through life was marked by his dedication to excellence and his unwavering commitment to family. He played football during his youth in Strongsville, Ohio, and later pursued higher education at Fenn College (now Cleveland State University), where he earned a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering.

Following graduation, Bill embarked on a successful career in the firearms industry, eventually settling in Connecticut. His tenure at Marlin Firearms Company was distinguished by his leadership of the Research and Development team and his role as the co-inventor of eleven patents.

Bill met Bonnie Bielen in New Haven in 1961 and fell in love. They were wed in 1962 and settled in Guilford, where they raised their children Randel and Lea.

Bill’s character was marked by his intelligence, thoughtfulness, and kindness. His strong moral compass guided him through life’s challenges, while his unconditional love for his family served as a beacon of strength and support. His appreciation for mechanical intricacies was rivaled only by his deep affection for animals, both in their natural habitats and as cherished family members.

Bill is survived by his wife, Bonnie; daughter, Lea; son, Randel; daughter-in-law, Molly; and grandchildren, Garrett, Floyd, and Roald. His memory will forever be treasured by all who knew him.

A private interment service was held at the Memorial Garden of the Madison Congregational Church.
