Charles Shelton Jr.


Charles “Charlie” F. Shelton Jr. of Branford passed away on May 17, 2024, at Guilford House. He was a long-time resident of Branford. He was the husband of the late Doris Jones Shelton. He is survived by his sons, Christian Shelton (Sarah) of Madison and Stephen Shelton (Amy) of Guilford, and also his grandchildren: Andrew, Caroline, Dana, David, Lexie, and Ariya, and his great-granddaughter Leona. He was predeceased by his son Charles Shelton III and his grandson Elijah Shelton. Charlie was born in New Haven on Sept. 29, 1930, a son of Charles and Shirley Browne Shelton. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean War.

Charles’ early career was as an electrical engineer at various companies where he worked with design teams developing wire and cable for early SST aircraft and NASA space vehicles. He was the owner, administrator, and CEO of the Branford Hills Health Care Center, the Branford Hills Homecare and Companion Services, and the Branford Hills Health Care Pharmacy. Charles was recently awarded the 2024 American College of Health Care Administrators Hall of Fame Award and was a former Administrator of the Year winner. He was a member of the Branford Board of Finance, the Workers Compensation Trust, and a former board member of the Connecticut Association of Health Care Facilities.

Charles cherished his wife and family and always enjoyed going out to dinners and shows with his many friends.

A visitation was held on May 28 at the W.S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main Street, Branford. The burial will be private. Please see his online memorial @ www.wsclancy.com.
