05/22/2024 09:36 AMJohn Kane, 82, passed away on May 15, 2024. He was born to the late John and Mildred Kane in Springfield, Massachusetts, in September of 1941. John was predeceased by his wife, Barbara, to whom he was married for 45 years. John was currently residing in Crescent Point Senior Living in Niantic. Prior to that, John and Barbara split their time between their retirement home and community of dear friends in Florida and their home on the Connecticut shore in Westbrook, where they were close to their grandchildren.
John is survived by his two sons, Shaun Kane of Guilford and Todd Kane of Waterford. He was known as “Gramps” and took immense joy in spending time with his grandchildren, Michael, Jack, Caroline, Erin, and Kiera, and his daughters-in-law, Melissa and Jaime Kane. John had two sisters, Ann Kane (deceased) and Marion (Kane) Grochmal from Wilbraham, Massachusetts.
John spent most of his life living in Holyoke, Massachusetts, where he traveled to different job sites throughout New England to install fire suppression sprinkler systems for the United Association of Sprinkler Fitters Local 676. Some of the more recognizable structures John worked on were Millstone Nuclear Power Plant, Mohegan Sun Casino, and “The Gold Building” in Hartford.
John was a lifelong sports fan who enjoyed attending hockey, softball, and lacrosse games for his children and grandchildren. John also enjoyed playing golf. He was introduced to golf by his brother-in-law, Jim Grochmal, at Westover AFB in Chicopee, Massachusetts. He took pleasure in playing at various courses in Connecticut and Florida. John will be sorely missed by his family and friends.
