William “Bill” Herzog, 81, of North Haven, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on April 8, 2024. Born in New York, on Sept. 2, 1942, and raised in Yonkers, he was a devoted husband, loving father, brother, uncle and cherished friend. William dedicated his life to his family and community, creating a legacy marked by love, laughter, and memorable gatherings.

Bill’s life was marked by the love he shared with his teenage sweetheart and wife of 60 years, Arlene Joyce Herzog, whose memory he cherished following her passing on Dec. 15, 2022. Their enduring love and journey blossomed into a beautiful family setting in North Haven for over 50 years.

Bill is survived by his children Marc and Mary Kay of Essex, Gail and Jason of Marblehead, Massachusetts; Michael Guercia of North Haven; and the family’s loyal dog, Charley. All were especially dear to William, enhancing his life with their presence and love. Beyond his immediate family, Bill was predeceased by his brother, Ed, and sister, Elizabeth, whose memories he held dear. He also leaves behind his loving nieces and nephews and dear friends. Bill, as he was known, nurtured his relationships with care, laughter, and shared memories that are treasured by all who knew him.

An avid sports enthusiast, Bill passionately supported the Boston Red Sox, UConn basketball, and Yale football and was known for his infectious enthusiasm at Yale tailgates. He also enjoyed coaching his son’s baseball teams, demonstrating his love for sports and community engagement. A member of the Elks, Bill relished evenings spent playing cards and participating in club activities. Bill’s love for traveling, especially summers spent on Cape Cod, and for sports and music echoed throughout his life. His stories and musical choices often created the soundtrack for family dinners, road trips, and relaxed Sundays.

As we bid farewell to Bill, we celebrate a life well-lived and a legacy rich with enduring connections and joyous moments. His spirit, deeply missed, will forever remain in our hearts.
