04/11/2024 12:16 PMCatherine M. Kuzaro, a beloved pillar of the Chester community, passed peacefully at home during a tranquil sunset on March 21, 2024, at the remarkable age of 99. She was the cherished wife of the late Walter Kuzaro and is survived by her beloved daughter Carol Kuzaro Barclay and husband Frederick Barclay. Born in Chester to the late James and Catherine Lufrano Grote, Catherine was the fifth of six children. She was predeceased by siblings: Francis Grote ( Constance), Genieva Wigren (John), Carmine Grote (Julia), Rosario Kuzaro (Joseph), and Nicholine Novinski (Benedict); nephews Ben Novinski and Dick Grote; and niece Paula Kuzaro.
Catherine graduated from Chester High School and remained a lifelong resident of Chester. Catherine’s life embodied the power of love, compassion, and unwavering dedication. She dedicated 34 years of her life to working as a secretary for Regional District 4, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of countless students and colleagues. Catherine had a special bond with the students she encountered, and they, in turn, adored her. Catherine’s legacy extends far beyond her professional accomplishments. She was known for her amazing clarity of mind, sassy wit, sharp intellect, and unwavering compassion. Her ability to connect with people and make a lasting impact on their lives is a testament to her kind and caring nature. Catherine’s life was a shining example of what it means to live with purpose, compassion, and a deep appreciation for the people and places that shaped her journey. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of all those whose lives she touched.
Per her wishes, there will be a private Celebration of Life in May. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the Middlesex Hospital Health Hospice for their exceptional care and support during Catherine’s final days. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Catherine’s name to the Chester Hose Company, 6 High St., Chester, CT 06412, or Middlesex Health Hospice, 28 Crescent St., Middletown, CT 06457, to honor her memory and continue her legacy of service to the community she loved.
