Eleanor Sullivan


Eleanor (O’Connell) Sullivan, beloved wife, aunt, and friend to many, formerly of Killingworth, Salem, Guilford, and the Villages, Florida, passed away at age 79. Eleanor, loving wife and cherished aunt, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2024. She was surrounded by her family and friends, who will forever remember her warmth, kindness, and unwavering love. Born on Feb. 25, 1945, in New Haven, Eleanor was the daughter of Agnes and Jeremiah O’Connell.

She grew up in New Haven. There, she met the love of her life, Richard Sullivan. Their love story was one of devotion and companionship, and they shared many wonderful years together until his passing in 2012. Despite the loss, Eleanor continued to honor his memory and carried his love with her every day.

Eleanor was also predeceased by her parents, Agnes and Jeremiah, and her beloved siblings, John “Jack” O’Connell of Stonington, Maureen Tierney of Guilford, and Agnes “Bunky” Venice of Bayside, New York, Brother Kevin O’Connell, O.P, of Providence, Rhode Island; Robert “Bobby” O’Connell of New Haven; Karen McHugh of Guilford, and Lt. James O’Connell of New Haven; and brother-in-law Gary Sullivan, North Branford/Salem; sister-in-law Irene Sullivan Eagan Wells, Maine. She is survived by her brother-in-law Frank Venice, of Manchester, and sisters-in-law, Jean O’Connell, of Virginia, and Linda Olson, of East Bethel, Maine.

Family was paramount to Eleanor, and she took great joy in her role as an aunt. She was adored by her many nieces and nephews, whom she showered with affection and wisdom. Nothing brought her more joy than to be surrounded by her family and friends at her lake house in Salem. Eleanor was a constant source of comfort and guidance to them, always offering a listening ear and a shoulder to lean on. Eleanor will be deeply missed by her many nieces and nephews, as well as her extended family and friends. Her legacy of love, compassion, and resilience will continue to inspire all who knew her.

Friends and family were invited to calling hours on April 2 at the Guilford Funeral Home, 115 Church Street, Guilford. A Mass of Christian was celebrated on April 3 at St. George Church, 33 Whitfield Street, Guilford. Burial followed at Nut Plains Cemetery, 420 Nut Plains Road, Guilford.
