Joan Davis

Joan Brown Davis, 91, of North Haven, formerly of Pawley’s Island, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2024, at Yale New Haven Hospital. She was the beloved wife of the late Evan W. Davis. Joan was born in New Haven on July 15, 1932, and was the daughter of the late Joseph and Emma Gerwig Brown.

She earned a bachelor’s degree from Central Connecticut State Teacher’s College and a master’s degree from Southern Connecticut State College. Joan was a teacher for the North Haven School System for many years until her retirement. After retirement, she and her late husband moved to Pawley’s Island, South Carolina, for many years until she moved back in 2023. Joan was a very sociable person and was a friend to many. She and Evan enjoyed a wonderful retirement full of golf, hosting parties with friends, travels, and regular wine time.

She was the mother of Cheryl Davis and Allison Davis; grandmother of Evan J. Davis and Gavin G. Davis (Laurie); great-grandmother of Piper, Felix, and Roman Davis; and aunt to Pam Souchuns (Pete) and Kathy Titus (Brian). She was predeceased by her sister, Barbara Haverly.

A visiting hour was held on March 20 at The Havens Family North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue. A “Celebration of Her Life” followed, at which time family and friends were invited to share their remembrances of Joan.
