02/29/2024 10:44 AMRonald Joseph Rode, 89, of Guilford (formerly Clinton), husband to Marion Hallock Rode, passed away peacefully on Feb. 19, 2024. He was born on Oct. 27, 1934, in Staten Island, New York, to Alphonse Rode and Evelyn Macmillan Rode. Following his graduation from high school, Ron enlisted in the Navy and served as a radioman during the Korean War. When he returned to the U.S., Ron enrolled at NYU, where he obtained a degree in mechanical engineering. He and Marion married in 1959 and made their home in Linden, New Jersey. After the birth of their third son, they moved to Guilford, and Ron took a job working for Pirelli Tire Company (formerly the Armstrong Rubber Company), where he remained until his retirement.
Ron and Marion enjoyed their travels to Sweden and Prince Edward Island. He will be remembered for his smile, positive outlook, and his ability to tell a bad joke or an interesting yet obscure quote on a regular basis and often to the warmhearted embarrassment of his children. Ron was an avid reader, and although he claimed not to be a very strong player, he enjoyed challenging anyone to a game of chess. His family extends their gratitude to the staff and residents at Solstice for their friendship and care.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his loving sons, Randall Rode and his wife Leslie Lindenauer; Kenneth Rode and his wife MaryAnne; James Rode and his wife Joan Weir; and his loving daughters, Sarah Bertolini and her husband Peter, and Rebecca Rode. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Leo, Ethan, Rachel, Kass, Emma, Henry, Will, and Evelyn, whom he cherished and adored. Ron was predeceased by his brother Alphonse and his sisters Paula, Elaine, and Beatrice.
The family will have a memorial service in May and welcome all who knew him to reach out for further details at RJRodefamily@outlook.com
