01/18/2024 11:53 AMWe regretfully announce the passing of Clementine “Clemmie” Louise Sodergren, 93, of Killingworth, beloved wife of John Sodergren. She passed away peacefully on Jan. 8, 2024, surrounded by family. Clemmie was born on Dec. 30, 1930, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, to William and Katherine Hodges.
She spent many of her early years in a Catholic orphanage and was later raised by her loving Aunt “Zimmie.” She graduated from Notre Dame High School, Chattanooga, in 1951 and then attended business school in Washington, D.C. While working at RCA in Washington, D.C., she met the love of her life, John, at Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. They were later married at the Dover Air Force Base Chapel in 1961. After leaving Dover, Clemmie and her family lived in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, East Northport Long Island, New York, and finally settled in Killingworth in 1971. During the long span of John’s 41-year career in the U.S. Air Force and American Airlines, he was often away, sometimes for extended periods. During these years, Clemmie lovingly and faithfully raised four boys, never failing to do her best and to be the best mother and wife. She was simply amazing.
In addition to her devoted husband, Clemmie is survived by her four sons: Shawn and wife Debbie of Killingworth; Eric and wife Lisa of Killingworth, Mikael of Killingworth, and Cris and wife Angela of East Haddam; 10 grandchildren: Cassie, Andrew, Corey, Ben, Kurt, Luke, Henry, Audrey, John, and Kayla; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two loving siblings, her brother Bill “Buddy” Hodges and her sister Kathleen Hodges Fowler.
Calling hours were on Jan. 13 at Swan Funeral Home, with a service immediately following. After the service, a reception was held at Cafe Allegre. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association alz.org.
