John Stangel
John Stangel, a cherished resident of Old Saybrook, passed away on Dec. 30, 2023, at the age of 65, surrounded by close friends and family after a short battle with cancer. Born on Aug. 19, 1958, in Queens, NY, to John and Sheila (Sullivan) Stangel, he grew up in Glenn Cove, NY, and graduated from St. John’s University.
John is survived by his wife Patrice (Frattaroli) and four children: Shane, Katie, Aubreyand Erin, as well as honorary daughter Samantha Calabrese (Frattaroli), her husband Rob Calabrese, and their two daughters. Additionally, he is survived by his parents and six younger siblings: Peter (Tara), Patricia Brooks (Jay), Stephen, Matthew (Ruth), Theresa (Julie), and Paul (Helen).
Known for his deep love of music and perpetual sense of humor, John’s warmth and kindness will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He was an entrepreneur at heart and founded Connecticut River Lumber Company in 2011. May he rest in peace, leaving behind a legacy filled with love and laughter.
