11/30/2023 05:10 PMKathleen McGovern, 94, of Branford, passed away peacefully at Hospice on Nov. 24, 2023, with her family by her side, and with her rosary beads in her hands. Kathleen was born on Sept. 19, 1929, in New Haven to the late Bernard and Ella Heeran. She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Joseph McGovern Sr., who passed 20 years ago on the same date of her passing. She was also predeceased by her brother Joseph Heeran Sr. and sister Mary Sullivan.
She was the mother of Joseph McGovern Jr. (Carol), MaryEllen Baldino, and Maureen Morton (Craig). She was the grandmother of Elizabeth and Abigail Baldino, Kerrie Nugent, Brendan, Jocelyn and Simone McGovern, and Samantha, Vincent, and Kathleen Morton. She was predeceased by her daughter Nancy Nugent. She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
She was devoted to the Blessed Mother and prayed the rosary daily (two rosaries on her children and grandchildren’s birthdays). She was the last survivor of her generation, outliving family and friends, especially missing her “club”: Mary Lou, Theresa, and Lorraine.
Friends are invited to visit with Kathleen’s family from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. on Dec. 2, at the W. S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main Street, Branford, prior to a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Church of St. John Bosco Parish, Branford. Interment follows at All Saints Cemetery, North Haven. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested for donations to be made to Mar Sleeva Medicity Hospice, c/o St. John Bosco Parish, 731 Main Street, Branford, CT 06405.
