Nicholas S. Raccio
Nicholas S. “Nick” Raccio, 92, of North Haven, passed away peacefully on Oct. 10 at The Landing and was finally reunited with his beloved wife, the late Eleanor Palmucci Raccio. Together, they were the perfect pair and loved each other beyond measure. Nick was born in New Haven on Oct. 25, 1930, and was the son of the late Stefano and Josephine Riccitelli Raccio.
He served his country faithfully in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War as part of the Battles of Inchon and Chosin Reservoir. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart, the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, the United Nations, and National Defense Service Medals, and a recent recipient of Quilts of Valor. Nick proudly worked for the Catholic Cemeteries Association in management for over 30 years until his retirement.
He was the loving brother of Joanne Broga and the late Mary Martine, Sylvia Borrelli, Angelo, and Alfred “Sonny” Raccio, and brother-in-law of Irene DiTallo. His sister, sister-in-law, many special nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and caring friends will truly miss his joyful demeanor and amazing smile. Everyone who met him loved Uncle Nick and will miss him greatly!
The visiting hours were on Oct. 17 at The Havens Family North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated in St. Elizabeth of the Trinity Parish at St. Barnabas Church, 44 Washington Avenue, North Haven.
