Susan B. McMinn

On Sept. 30, Susan B. McMinn, 77, a longtime resident of Guilford and Naples, Florida, passed away at Harbor Chase, Branford. Susan was born in New Haven on May 17, 1946, the daughter of the late Joseph E. McMinn and Shirley Edwards McMinn. She was the beloved sister of Joseph “Jed” E. McMinn Jr. (Donna) and the adored cousin of Karen East. She was predeceased by her brother, Michael McMinn.

Susan graduated from West Haven High School and received her bachelor’s degree and master’s sixth-year in education from New Haven College. Before retirement, she had worked as a teacher for West Haven Public Schools for over 30 years. During her tenure, Susan taught second and fifth grades along with remedial reading and was an integral part of the West Haven Teacher’s Union. She was considered a favorite teacher to many of her students.

She enjoyed traveling, Christmas parties, holiday seasons, Countryside Clubhouse gatherings, and spending time with her family and all her nieces and nephews. Susan fell in love with Naples, Florida, and inspired many of her friends and fellow teachers to join her in residence.

Friends are invited to calling hours from 10 a.m. to noon on Friday, Oct. 13, at the Guilford Funeral Home, 115 Church Street, Guilford. Burial will take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14, in All Saints Cemetery, North Haven.
