Lillian Vetro Lorello
Beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Lillian Vetro Lorello, passed away peacefully at her home in Ivoryton on Sept. 10. She was the beloved wife of the late James V. Lorello, who predeceased her on March 7, 2012. Lillian was born in New Haven on June 17, 1921, the daughter of Angelo and Leanarda (Frudella) Vetro. She was the only girl in a family of six children.
During World War II, Lillian worked at Armstrong Rubber in West Haven, making rafts for the War effort. She met James Lorello one Halloween night when he was dressed as the bride in a shotgun wedding. She was asked later if it was love at first sight, and she replied, “Well, I liked his dress.” The Lorello’s started their family on Peck Avenue in West Haven, then moved to Ivoryton, where they resided the rest of their lives. Lillian was the mother of the late Lea Lorello Smith. She is survived by her sons, J. Jeff Lorello and Christian Salvatore Lorello. She also leaves her four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation was on Sept. 13 at the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main Street in Centerbrook. A graveside service followed in the Resurrection Cemetery, Horse Hill Road in Westbrook. Memorial contributions may be made in Lillian’s name to Middlesex Health Care at Home, Hospice and Palliative Care, 28 Crescent Street, Middletown.
