09/29/2023 04:48 PMHarold “Larry” Murphy, 93, of North Haven, entered into eternal peace on Sept. 23 at MidState Medical Center in Meriden after a short illness. Larry was the loving and beloved husband of Eunice Murphy for 71 years.
In addition to his loving wife, Eunice (nee Schlichting), Larry is survived by his daughter, Dr. Elizabeth Murphy, and her husband, Dr. Herbert Rothfarb of Weston, Massachusetts; his daughter, Pamela Danie, and her husband, Robert Danie, of Feeding Hills, Massachusetts; and his son Neal Murphy of Meriden. He delighted in his four grandchildren: Brian Beglane, Kevin Danie, Marine Staff Sergeant Sean Murphy, and Kaitlyn Belanger, RN; plus six great-grandchildren: Samantha, Sean Jr., Kristen, Jason, Madison, and Palmer. He also leaves several nieces and nephews.
He was born in Palmer, Massachusetts, to the late Harold J. and Mary (Tupper) Murphy of Wilbraham, Massachusetts, where he grew up as one of four siblings. Graduating from Commerce High School, he enlisted in the US Air Force in 1951, serving in Japan. After being honorably discharged from the military, Larry and Eunice moved to Springfield, Massachusetts, where they raised their family.
For over 30 years, he had a successful and satisfying career at the former Equitable Life Assurance Company. As much as he loved his career, retirement allowed him time to pursue his hobbies. He was a voracious reader, lifelong gardener, and enthusiastic traveler, taking many road trips with Eunice and her sister, the late Lois Conlin; they shared so many laughs and great memories! Sports were important, especially UConn women’s basketball and the team sports of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was a faithful communicant of St. Elizabeth of the Trinity Church in North Haven.
Friends and family are invited to attend a funeral Mass in his honor, which will be held at noon on Monday, Oct. 2, at St. Elizabeth of the Trinity Church, 44 Washington Avenue, North Haven. Military honors will be rendered in front of the church immediately following the Mass. Burial services will be private. Memorial donations in Larry’s name can be made to either Disabled American Vets (DAV, P.O. Box 14301; Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301) or to Midstate Medical Center (Philanthropy Department, 435 Lewis Avenue, Meriden, CT 06451). He will be deeply and forever missed.
