Richard Batick
Richard Batick of Branford passed away on Aug. 26 at CT Hospice in Branford. He was the husband of the late Loretta Coppola Batick. He was the father of Jeffrey Batick (Rhonda Ranney) of Wallingford and Stephanie Baklik (John) of Branford and brother of Jean Langner and Patricia Batick, both of New Haven. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Jasmine Baklik and John Baklik Jr. He was predeceased by his brothers, Robert Batick and Walter Smith, and his sister, Betty Curtis. Richard was born in New Haven on Oct. 2, 1937, a son of Joseph and Margaret Batick.
Richard had a full career with SS Kresge/Kmart Corporation as a retail manager for 38 years until his retirement.
Richard was a kind and gentle soul who experienced joy by generously giving to others. He was also an artist and an avid gardener. His first love being ceramics, he and Loretta ran a ceramic studio in Branford. After Loretta’s passing, he threw his passion for art into other media and in philanthropic actions. Richard volunteered at numerous organizations, including the Monastery of the Glorious Cross in Branford, tending the gardens. He also was active in volunteering at the Branford Senior Center. All of his accomplishments were recognized in 2016 when he received the Remarkable Senior Award from Branford Senior Center. He loved playing cards with friends and family and was a cherished person who enriched many lives, even those who never had the privilege of meeting him.
Friends may call from 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5, at the W.S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main Street, Branford, with a service at 10 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial of his urn will follow at St. Agnes Cemetery in Branford. Please see his online memorial @ www.wsclancy.com.
