Gail S. Kane

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gail S. Kane, a devoted mother, cherished friend, and a pillar of strength in our community. She departed from this world on Aug. 13, at the age of 81, due to unforeseen complications during a medical procedure.

Born on July 25, 1942, Gail S. Kane embraced life with an unwavering spirit and an indomitable will. She was an exemplar of resilience, embodying the true essence of independence. A single mother who raised her children with boundless love, she demonstrated immense courage in facing life’s challenges head-on.

Her legacy as a compassionate and self-reliant woman leaves an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her. Gail had an innate ability to light up a room with her infectious laughter and unwavering positivity. She was a beacon of support for her friends and family, always ready with a listening ear and a helping hand.

Gail was a dedicated professional, real estate agent of Fort Hale Real Estate, and co-owner of “Sandwich City” of Branford, juggling her responsibilities with grace and determination. Her commitment to her work and her unwavering dedication to her family are testaments to her strength of character. She taught us that independence is not merely a trait but a way of life.

Tragically, Gail was taken from us too soon. As we mourn her loss, we remember the strength that defined her. Her memory will forever serve as a reminder of the importance of cherishing every moment, embracing challenges, and supporting one another.

Gail was a lifelong resident and boater of Branford, daughter of the late Catherine Kosky Macina and Albin Wilson Sholun. She is survived by her loving children, Bridgette Tara Kane and son Ralph E. Kane; grandsons, Mark B. Rhatigan, Harris J. Bonfiglio, Nicholas A. Bonfiglio; granddaughter, Marie Kane Drost; and great-grandson, Landon B. Rhatigan; her close-knit circle of friends, and the countless lives she touched. She is preceded in death by her sisters, Gwen Brayshaw of Middletown and Kim Connolly of Branford, and brother, Mark Sholun of East Haven. In our hearts, her spirit lives on, inspiring us to live our lives with the same determination and resilience that she exemplified.

A memorial service will be held in the near future, where we will gather to celebrate her life and bid her a fond farewell. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to Save the Sound, CT- www.savethesound.org, a cause close to Gail's heart stemming from her love of the water.
