08/11/2023 05:57 AMOn Aug. 5, Rosalie Trebbe McGuire, 85, a longtime resident of Guilford, passed away in Middletown, across the street from the house in which she grew up. She was married for 61 years to the love of her life, the late John M. McGuire.
Rosalie, known to her family as “Bitta,” was born May 3, 1938, in Middletown, daughter of the late Charles F. Trebbe and Rosalie (Higgins) Trebbe. Rosalie graduated from Middletown High School in 1955 and the Greenwich Hospital School of Nursing in 1958 and was a passionate nurse throughout her long career.
Rosalie and John raised their five children in Guilford: Maura Carver of Deep River, Noreen (Brian) Tucker of Guilford, Erin (Frank Silvestro) of Guilford, Tricia (Leonard) Cox of San Diego, California, and Brendan (Karla Larson) of Madison. She also leaves her beloved grandchildren: Cody and Grace Carver, Bridget, Rachel (Scott Hayes), and Claudia Tucker, Aideen and Cian Cox and Jack McGuire, and her cherished great-grandson Silas Doran. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, blood and otherwise, whom she loved like her own.
“Rosie,” along with John, were the “quintessential parents to the cast of thousands who traipsed through their humble castle. The stories were legendary, the laughter copious, and the only thing you could count on was that you couldn’t guess what was going to happen next.”
In addition to her husband and her parents, Rosalie was predeceased by her brothers, Charles Jr., Cyril, Joseph, and John Michael, and her sister Ann Sweet King. She was also predeceased by her best friend and sister-in-law, Mary, “Isn’t it nice we can be relatives and friends at the same time?” Trebbe, and friends and partners in crime, Teresa and Bob Robicheau. The party in heaven, when she joined them all, was epic, as evidenced by the rainbow halo around the sun seen later that day.
Friends are invited to call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 17, at the Guilford Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 18, at St. George Church, 33 Whitfield Street, Guilford. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
