She was the oldest of four siblings and is survived by two sisters, Gail Cahill (David) and Susan Scott, and a brother, Michael Gozzo (Sally Motycka). She is also survived by nieces Emily Cahill (Tom Pelletier) and Natalia Gozzo, nephew Ryan Gozzo, and great-nephew Tommy Pelletier. Nancy was born to be an auntie and was much loved by her nieces and nephews.
Nancy was born March 25, 1953, and grew up in Old Saybrook. She loved good music and attended concerts regularly, most recently at The Kate in Old Saybrook. When at home, she could frequently be heard blasting the hits on her record player, classics from the ‘60s, which gave her great joy. Nancy loved to sing and was a member of the high school chorus and the choral group, Up with People. She also sang in the St. John’s Church choir.
In her younger days, she enjoyed camping with her siblings and friends along the West River in Vermont while attending the fiddle contest each summer. Over the last 30 years, Block Island was her favorite getaway, spending quiet days on the beach reading a novel per day. Nancy loved going to the movies, sometimes attending several movies in one day at the Multiplex. Nancy was a gifted potter, recently reigniting her hobby to make many beautiful and unique pieces at a studio in Old Saybrook.
Nancy had a long and successful career in retail as a buyer for GFOX and Ames stores. She retired several years ago as a supervisor at Godiva Chocolate’s customer service center in Old Saybrook. Nancy excelled in her professional life and mentored many colleagues in every position she held, and was a sincere and trusted friend.
There is no replacing Nancy in our family. She was our big sister who took care of us when we were young, and she will be missed by all, forever living on in our memories.
A funeral Mass was held on Aug. 1 at Saint John’s Catholic Church, 161 Main Street, in Old Saybrook. A reception was held following the Mass.
