Bradford Perry

Bradford “Brad” Perry passed away on July 1 at his home in San Clemente, California, with his loving wife Kelly at his side after a traumatic fall two months earlier. He was 68.

Brad was born in Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland, to Col. Brewster Perry and Eileen (Sammy) Samuelson Perry. He was predeceased by his brothers, Brewster Perry, Jr. and Samuel Byron Perry. Surviving siblings include Jonathan Niles Perry of Little Rock, Arkansas, Sarah Newton Perry of Rustburg, Virginia, and Joanna Perry Roemhild of Deep River.

Brad attended Valley Regional High School in Deep River through his junior year, where he played basketball and soccer. The family moved to California in the summer of 1972. Brad graduated from Poway High School in Poway, California, in 1973, where he continued to play soccer. He attained the rank of Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America.

Brad attended the University of California at San Diego and was on the Soccer team there. In 1977, he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Relations from the University of California at Davis and continued to play competitive soccer. In 1986, Brad graduated with honors from Western State College of Law in San Diego, where he received his Juris Doctor, law, and was admitted to the State Bar in California.

Eschewing a career in law, Brad ended up working in the commercial real estate industry, primarily in the San Diego area, as a property manager and broker. In 2008, he formed and operated his own commercial real estate brokerage firm, Perry CRE (Commercial Real Estate). This evolved into Perry CRE Investments in 2014, specializing in downtown San Diego property transactions. Brad retired in 2019.

Brad served as the president of the Rotary Club of Del Mar, California, from 1991-’92. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Downtown San Diego Partnership and the San Diego chapter of Lambda Alpha International, a land economics society.

Brad found his ultimate life partner and true love in Kelly King, and they married in March 2015. He is survived by his two sons, Brennan Edward Perry of Wailuku, Hawaii, and Devin Oliver Perry of Reno, Nevada. Brad had an unwavering faith in God and was a devout Christian throughout his whole life, leading bible classes and running men’s support groups in various San Diego churches.

Whatever Brad decided to do, he was a great success. Whether it was Basketball, Soccer, Tennis, Golf, or Sailing, he excelled. He was an avid climber and hiked Mt. Whitney in California in 2011, reaching the summit of 14,505 ft in one day for a total of 22 miles. His friends in San Diego said, “he had an innate ability to bring people together, both professionally and personally. He was the common thread and unifying force with many who might not otherwise have met, enabling them to enjoy each other’s company in any number of endeavors and pursuits, turning new acquaintances into lifelong friendships”.

A celebration of Brad’s life is at 2:30 p.m. Friday, July 21, 2023, at the San Clemente Presbyterian Church in San Clemente, California. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Brad’s memory may be made to Summit Ministries, P O Box 207, Manitou Springs, CO 80829.
