Frank M. Slowik Jr.


Frank M. Slowik Jr., affectionately known to many in his hometown of Westbrook as “Murray,” died on June 3 at his home. Frank was born on April 19, 1942, in New Britain to Frank M. Slowik, Sr. and Stella (Yaskolka) Slowik.

He graduated from Berlin High School in 1960 and earned his B.A. degree from the University of Connecticut in 1964. He was employed as a sales and marketing manager for several corporations, including Mercury Oil Corp. of Wethersfield and Heli-Coil Corp. of Danbury, and retired from Black & Decker, where he earned the National Eagle Award for his accomplishments as a Senior Sales Representative.

Frank was predeceased by his daughter Jenafer Slowik of Southington; his sister Lois Slowik of Berlin; his fiancée Kathleen Felsted of Westbrook; and his beloved dog Bella. Frank is survived by his son Jeffrey Slowik, his daughter-in-law Regina Slowik, and granddaughter Sophia Slowik, of Southington; his son Christopher Slowik, his daughter-in-law Peggy Swisher, and his granddaughter Cassie Slowik, of Brooklyn, New York; his sister Barbara Crespo, niece Valerie, Crespo, and nephews David and Alan Crespo, of Stratford; and his former wife Diane Slowik-Haugh, of Southington, with whom he had his three children.

Frank leaves many friends in Westbrook, where he lived for more than forty years. He was active in the life of Westbrook Congregational Church, where he served as a deacon and as a Stephen Minister to the community. He also volunteered with the Muscular Dystrophy Association and served a term as President of its Connecticut chapter.

One of Frank’s favorite hobbies was photography. He photographed many weddings, events, and holidays for family and friends. Frank also loved spending time with family and friends every summer at the beach in Westbrook.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, at Westbrook Congregational Church, and a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Connecticut Cancer Foundation in Old Saybrook.
