06/01/2023 11:56 AMWith the sadness of her loving family, Millicent Dorothy DiNardo (née Schaffer) of Brookfield passed from this life peacefully on the morning of May 17, at age 85. She was a devoted wife of 64 years to Frank DiNardo, Jr., who predeceased her in 2022, and the daughter of the late Millicent Dorothy Husted and Stephen George Schaffer, also of Brookfield.
Millicent was born in 1938 in Throgg’s Neck, New York, and raised on the mainland overlooking City Island and Eastchester Bay, where she learned to sail as a young girl. A talented graphic artist, Millicent graduated from the School of Industrial Art in New York City in 1955 and for several years designed greeting cards for the Norcross Company in Manhattan. Soon she met her future husband Frank, newly out of the Navy, and they married in 1958. She thereafter dedicated her life to the loving care of her adoring husband and three children. Millicent enjoyed many years of boating with her family on Long Island Sound and was an avid gardener – a passion she pursued fully after the family moved in 1972 to more spacious quarters and the greener fields of Connecticut, where she happily spent the rest of her life.
Millicent is survived by her children, Richard S. DiNardo of Guilford, Jeffrey F. DiNardo of Wayland, Massachusetts, and Lisa A. DiNardo of Brookfield; by her sister Barbara T. Schaffer and brother Stephen C. Schaffer of Brookfield; and by her six grandchildren, Erik and Alex DiNardo, Austin, and Kyle Wahl, and Matthew and Daniel DiNardo.
She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
