04/21/2023 07:26 AMWilliam “Bill” Piascyk, 72, passed away peacefully at his home on April 17 after a long illness. Bill was born May 14, 1950, and was the son of the late Theodore Sr. and Lena Piascyk. He graduated from Wilbur Cross High School and worked as a mechanic until he pursued his calling to follow in his father’s footsteps and become a New Haven police officer, where he served 30 years.
During his career, he worked with the once-active street crime unit and became a detective, where he received several commendations.
Bill looked for humor in every situation and often kept his family and friends laughing, sometimes for hours. As his health failed, he never lost that sense of humor. Bill had a natural ability to repair almost anything. He loved fast cars, and he would spend hours working in his garage on his 1960s muscle cars, his Grand National, and he even built composite motorcycles from parts that he acquired from wrecks.
His family would like to thank the North Haven Fire/EMS and police for responding in his times of need. He leaves behind his brother Theodore Piascyk Jr.; and many loving cousins.
The visiting hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, April 21, in The Havens Family, North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue. A Catholic funeral service will be conducted in the funeral home at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 22; Interment will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery, West Haven. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to North Haven Professional Firefighter Charitable Association, P.O. Box 191, North Haven, CT 06473. www.northhavenfuneral.com.
