William E. Malcarne
William E. “Bill” Malcarne of 12 Old House Point Road, Jonesport, Maine, died peacefully on March 24 with his wife by his side. He was born on May 25, 1941, and grew up in Chester.
After graduating from Valley Regional High School, he completed two years of trade school, graduating with a certificate in carpentry. He worked as a carpenter before joining the U.S. Army, where he was stationed in Germany for three years. Upon returning to Connecticut, he got a job at the telephone company, where he made his career. This is where he met his wife, Barbara, whom he married on May 10, 1969. While raising his family in Deep River, he built their first home on weekends and after work. After retiring from the phone company, he worked for his nephew for a few years. In retirement, he and his wife were able to enjoy many years of traveling with their fifth wheel camper. Bill built three homes in his lifetime, the last being the most spectacular and in his dream location on the water in Jonesport, Maine. He also enjoyed boating, fishing, doing carpentry projects, and hanging out with the local fishermen and friends at Darlene and Byron’s Moosabec Video in Jonesport.
He leaves behind his wife of 53 years, Barbara Breslin Malcarne; a daughter, Debra (Hans) Vought of Saugerties, New York; a daughter-in-law, Ryanna (Jennings) Malcarne of Portland, Oregon.; four grandchildren, Jacqueline and Gordon Vought and William (Liam), and James Malcarne Jr.; also many nieces and nephews; and his best friend, Doug Dodge. He was predeceased by a son, James William Malcarne, in 2012; his parents, William and Olive Malcarne; and a sister, Gloria Malcarne Sparaco.
