04/07/2023 06:50 AMEvelyn Lorraine (Milone) Alfano, 95, peacefully passed away March 27.
The youngest of 10, Evelyn, “Evie” to her family and friends, was born Jan. 14, 1928, in Middletown to Gaetano and Vincenza Milone. She was raised in Middletown and, as an adult, chose Old Saybrook to call her home. Evelyn worked side-by-side with her husband as they built a thriving business (Alfo’s Package Store) and raised a family of four sons.
Evelyn’s zest for adventure and fondness for travel with her sisters and close friends continued until the last few years of her life, her favorite destination—Italy. Always active and on the go, Evie enjoyed nature walks and the outdoors, but it was spending time with her family that provided her with the greatest joy.
Evie’s kitchen was the “place to be” on a Sunday afternoon. Family members—sons and daughters-in-law, grandchildren, sisters, nieces, and nephews—gathered to share laughter, love, and her amazing Italian cooking.
Evelyn spent her last several years basking in the warm Florida sunshine. Despite having to slow down due to her advancing age, her radiant smile never faded and will forever remain etched on the hearts of those she has left behind.
She is survived by her four sons, Leon (Darlene), Robert (Joy), Richard (Gabriela), and Michael (Lisa), and her five grandchildren, Erica, Sarah, Nathaniel, Christopher, and Joseph. She was predeceased by her husband, Angelo “Al”; her parents, her seven sisters, and two brothers.
A celebration of Evelyn’s life will be held May 8.
