04/07/2023 06:51 AMAntonio Carreira Pereira, 74, of North Haven, passed away peacefully on April 1 at his home with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of 44 years to Ermelinda Medeiros Pereira. Antonio was born in Portugal on March 16, 1949, and was the son of the late Antonio Ventura Pereira and Maria Jose Carreira Pereira.
He had served in the Portuguese Air Force and later came to the United States in 1979, settling in New Haven. Antonio had worked for H.B. Ives for over 30 years and later for Suraci Metal Finishing, both in New Haven and O.F. Mossberg of North Haven.
He enjoyed watching his Spanish soap operas and soccer, but most of all, Antonio enjoyed his grandchildren, whom he loved unconditionally. He was the father of Tanya M. Pereira (Andrew Orcutt) and Tony M. Pereira (Katrina); grandfather of Layla, Lana, and Maya; brother of Maria Terese Komar (Andre), Angelo Pereira (Natalia), Durval Pereira (Gloria DeSilva), Jose Manuel Pereira (Ursilina) and the late John, Sylvester, and Jamie Pereira; bother-in-law of Rosa and Anna Pereira. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
The visiting hours were on April 4 at The Havens Family North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated in St. Elizabeth of the Trinity Parish at St. Therese Church, 555 Middletown Avenue, North Haven. Interment followed in All Saints Cemetery.
