Laurie (Pickett) Pinover

Laurie (Pickett) Pinover, 88, of Madison, passed away on Feb. 9 at Ocean Meadow Senior Living & Memory Care in Clinton, surrounded by her family. She was born and raised in Meriden, the daughter of Edna and Harold Pickett.

Laurie graduated with a bachelor’s degree in English from Regis College in Weston, Massachusetts. After college, she began a teaching career and married the love of her life, Stan Pinover. Stan and Laurie rapidly became lifelong best friends, in addition to husband and wife. They began their lives together and started their family in Stamford, later relocating to Darien, which she considered their family home.

Laurie was an active community leader: She was a member of St. Joseph’s Hospital Auxiliary Board (Stamford), a member of the Junior League of Stamford-Norwalk, and a co-founder of the ABC House (A Better Chance) in Darien, which helps talented students of color achieve their educational goals. She helped start the Center for Hope, an organization offering critical illness support. Laurie was also active in local politics, helping elect the best people to office regardless of party. She was an active member of the Board of Directors at the Darien Library and later a volunteer at the Scranton Library in Madison and led numerous PTO organizations in the Darien Public Schools. A lifelong Catholic, she was a Eucharistic Minister and member of the Women’s Fellowship at St. Margaret’s Roman Catholic Church in Madison.

When her children were grown, she joined Scott Associates as a realtor in Darien and quickly became very successful. She retired with Stan and moved to Madison in 2006.

Laurie was best known for her love of life, warmth and humor, her laugh, tremendous positive energy, her competitive spirit, and her many friends. She especially loved children and was a firm believer in education.

Laurie is survived by her husband, Stan Pinover; their children, Lee Pinover and his wife, Stacie; Marcy Beatty and her husband, Tom; Steve Pinover and his wife, Susan, and Dave Pinover and his wife Starin; and 10 grandchildren. They were her greatest treasure and joy in life.

A memorial Mass and burial service were private.
