Donald W. Thomas, Jr.
Donald W. Thomas Jr., of East Haven, born in Akron, Ohio, to Donald W. Sr. and Margaret (Kelsey) Thomas, came to East Haven when he was six weeks old and, except for a few years, lived there the rest of his life. He leaves a wife, Margaret “Peggy” Thomas; two sons, Donald “Skip” W. Thomas III (Alberta Vitale) and Scott R. Thomas (Joseph Misdraji); a grandson, David W. Thomas; a brother, Gregory V. Thomas (B.J.); many nieces and nephews and more old friends. Don was predeceased within the year by two sisters, Barbara Roberts and Marion Butler Cote.
Don worked for the State of Connecticut for 25 years in construction and surveys. He was a heritage member of Old Stone Church and served as Deacon for many years. Don lived with multiple sclerosis for 45 years and fought the disease with vehemence unfathomable by mere humans. At last, it took over his body. When he was young, he played baseball, softball, basketball, and golf and was a swimmer. What he was best at, though, was being with and caring for his family.
His family wishes to thank the East Haven Fire Department and its spectacular firemen for all their help over the last few years. They take such good care of our town and the people in it.
All are welcome to meet and attend a memorial service at 10 a.m. on Feb. 11, at Old Stone Church, with a reception to follow. Don believed death was a rebirth. Let’s celebrate with color, not black.
Donations can be made in Don’s name to the Old Stone Church Steeple Fund, 251 Main Street, East Haven, CT 06512.
