Cora May Coulson-Metcalf
Cora May Coulson-Metcalf, resident of Guilford, passed away at Yale-New Haven Hospital on Feb. 5, after a brief illness. She was born on Oct. 18, 1950, in Manahoy City, Pennsylvania., the daughter of George and Martha (Morris) Coulson, who had predeceased her. She leaves behind her loving husband, John Metcalf. She is also survived by her son, Christopher Piedescalzo (Jennifer Scaia) of Tampa, Florida.; daughter Amber Bialczak (Robert); and grandchildren Gavin, Teagan, and Grant Bialczak of Berlin.
Cora was raised in Waterbury, where she attended Crosby High School. She was a graduate of Southern Connecticut State University. She retired from the VA Medical Center in West Haven after 30 years of service. There she rose to the position of Coordinator of the Institutional Review Board. In retirement, Cora was an avid reader and proficient knitter.
Cora faced many health challenges over the years with grace and courage. She will be missed by family and friends. The family wishes to thank the medical team at Yale New Haven Hospital for the exceptional care they gave to Cora and thank all of the doctors and nurses who cared for her over the years.
Friends are invited to calling hours from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, at the Guilford Funeral Home, 115 Church St, Guilford. Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 10, at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 129 Ledge Hill Rd, Guilford. Burial will follow in North Guilford Cemetery.
