Elizabeth West
Elizabeth Ann “Betty” West, 88, passed away on Nov. 29 after a long illness. Betty was born April 23, 1934, in Essex to Walter J. Comstock Jr. and Elizabeth Bannister.
She was predeceased by her first husband Harroll Clark and second husband Robert West; her brothers, Walter Comstock of Vermont, and Robert Comstock and Richard Comstock of Connecticut. She is survived by her sisters, Nancy Desnoyers of Old Saybrook and Sally LeClair of Uncasville; and sister-in-law Catherine Comstock of Connecticut and Florida and Lillian Comstock of Connecticut; many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews.
Betty worked in the insurance industry for 50 years. Betty belonged to Saint John’s Episcopal Church in Essex, for most of her life. She sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, participated in the rummage sale, and worked at Saint John’s soup kitchen. She graduated in the first graduating class of Valley Regional High School in 1952, earning the Daughters of the America Revolution (DAR) Award and National Honor Society membership; and she was editor of the yearbook. Betty and her late husband Bob spent many enjoyable vacations touring the western part of the United States in their RV.
Betty requested to celebrate her life with a simple graveside service that was held Saturday, Dec. 10 at the Centerbrook Cemetery in Centerbrook. In lieu of flowers, please show kindness to others.
