Belle M. (McSherry) Farrell


Belle M. (McSherry) Farrell, 88, longtime resident of Guilford passed away on Nov. 4 . Wife of the late Richard J. Farrell, Belle was born in New Haven on May 14, 1934, daughter of the late Terrance McSherry and Grace (Kelsey) McSherry. She was the loving mother of Kathleen O’Connor of North Branford (David O’Connor). She is also survived by two grandchildren, Ryan Dillon of Branford, and Kristy Dillon (Samuel Connor) of Branford. She was predeceased by her mother, father, and siblings, Jack, Nick, Charlotte, Mildred Martindale, and Terrance McSherry. She is also survived by many nieces, grandnieces, nephews, and grandnephews.

She is a 1952 graduate of Wilbur Cross High School. After high school, Belle was employed as a secretary for the Winchester Repeating Firearms Company in New Haven. In her later years, she was employed as a bookkeeper by Cullen and Kinnare Insurance Company in Guilford. She enjoyed spending time with her family and having numerous parties and picnics. In her younger years, she was an expert marksman and was on the skeet shooting team for the Winchester Firearms Company. However, Belle’s most enjoyed pastime was spoiling her daughter and two grandchildren. Belle was a strong, independent, stoic woman who was a great role model for all of her family. She had a great sense of humor that was gifted to all of her family members and a laugh that could light up the room. A special thanks from the family to the Guilford House Staff as well as Connecticut Hospice Caregivers.

Friends were invited to calling hours on Nov. 9, at the Guilford Funeral Home, 115 Church Street, Guilford. Funeral Services were held Nov. 10, at the Guilford Funeral Home. Burial followed in All Saints Cemetery, 700 Middletown Avenue, North Haven.
