Mary Ann Tagatac
Mary Ann Tagatac, of Guilford died peacefully on Sept. 10 in Mystic. Mary Ann was born and raised in Guilford on Sept. 15, 1937. She was the youngest daughter of Ralph and Sophie Capuano. Mary Ann graduated from Guilford High School in 1955 and attended Quinnipiac College where she met her husband, Henry Tagatac. They were married for over 63 years.
Mary Ann enjoyed every sport under the sun. She loved the competition and camaraderie of most team sports and later became an avid fan of the UConn Huskies women’s basketball team. She became an accomplished skier and enjoyed the slopes at Mt. Ascutney at the family vacation home in Vermont. As a lifelong boater and founding member of the Guilford Yacht Club, summers were spent cruising Long Island Sound on her beloved boats Cream Puff one, two and three. Mary Ann raised her family while simultaneously starting a women’s apparel company, Milady’s in Guilford. She grew the business from humble beginnings to three store locations in Connecticut. She then went on to manage women’s apparel stores at Clinton Crossing until retiring in her seventies.
In her retirement, she volunteered for many organizations and groups in Guilford and Madison. Mary Ann was an avid traveler and traveled to Italy, Spain, England, Ireland, Russia, and the Caribbean Islands just to name a few.
Mary Ann is survived by her husband, Henry; her daughter Deanna “Dee” Swift and husband Skip of Killingworth; her son, Michael Tagatac and wife Theresa of Essex; and her son Christopher Tagatac and wife Ashley of Stowe, Vermont. She is also survived by her four grandchildren, Jessica (husband Pete), Nicholas (wife Krista), Madeline, and Cameron; and three great-grandchildren, Willow, P.J., and Vincent. Lastly, she leaves behind her dear sister, Philomena Cabrawal and many nieces and nephews.
