Barbara L. Dresty
Barbara L. Dresty, 76, of Glastonbury, beloved wife of John E. Dresty Jr. passed away Sept. 8 after a long illness at St. Francis Hospital. She was born Nov. 10, 1945 in Hartford, daughter of the late Frank Moss and the late Iva Lorraine Moss (Poth), and grew up in West Hartford graduating from Conard High School in 1964.
Barbara was a graduate of Parsons College (Fairfield, Iowa) receiving her Bachelor of Arts in history in 1969. Barbara became a Vernon middle school history teacher and pursued international travel extensively during her summer breaks. She transitioned to Respiratory Therapy, after training at St. Francis Hospital and pursued her career there, and at other local hospitals. After starting a family, Barbara became a homemaker, proudly raising three admirable sons.
Barbara’s hobbies included flowers, fabrics (sewing and embroidery), cooking and especially reading history. She continued her travel with her husband John on skiing trips to Europe and throughout North America. Several long stays in Italy highlighted her passion for European travel.
In addition to her devoted husband of 49 years, she is survived by her three sons, John E. Dresty III of Glastonbury, Stephen A. Dresty of East Hartford and Frank W. Dresty of Santa Fe, New Mexico.; her grandchildren, John E. Dresty IV (10 years) and Vera L. Dresty (9 years). She is greatly missed by her whole family and friends, and was known to all as an extremely kind, gentle, and lovable soul.
Visitation was on Sept. 15 at the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main Street in Centerbrook. A Prayer Service followed in the funeral home chapel. Prayers of committal were in the Resurrection Cemetery, Horse Hill Road (Route 145) in Westbrook.
