Madison

Suzanne “Sue” Hudson passed away peacefully on Jan. 27, with Don, her husband of 65 years, at her side at home in Madison. Eighty-seven years old, she was born in Hammond, Indiana, on Sept. 24, 1934.

Raised in Hammond, Sue attended nursing school at Northwestern University. Upon graduation, she served several years on the medical staff at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. In 1956, Sue met and married Don Hudson. The service was at Covenant Methodist Church, the family church in Hammond. Her husband’s career took Sue and a growing family to Macon, Georgia, Cincinnati, Ohio, and 57 years in New Canaan before moving to Madison. She is survived by her loving children, Scott (Susan), Stewart (Jackie), and Sherrill (Paul) and six grandchildren.

Professionally, Sue was a child psychotherapist at the Child Guidance Center of Southern CT and had a private practice. She supplemented this experience with post-graduate studies at Yale University.

Sue enriched her time in New Canaan in many ways. A member of St. Mark’s Church for more than 50 years, Sue was an early leader in the community outreach organization and especially enjoyed working on the May Fair. Her community work also included the work study program at the high school, many post-prom parties, the town’s beautification activities, and children’s exhibit design for the Nature Center expansion.

On a broader scale, she was involved with planning on the Community Mental Health Center and various Junior League programs. She was a delegate to a Los Angeles conference on the changing role of women in society sponsored by the Junior League.

Sue enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, playing tennis and bridge, and traveling.

A private family service will be held later this spring. Contributions in Sue’s memory may be made to the Flower Fund at St. Mark’s Church, 111 Oenoke Ridge, New Canaan, CT 06840, or online here: https://onrealm.org/stmarks/-/form/give/now.
