Branford

Raymond John O’Connor of Lantern View and Turtle Bay in Branford, died on Jan. 14. He was the son of the late Raymond and Cecelia O’Connor of Bridgeport. He was the husband of Eileen Ann Lynch O’Connor of Branford. He was the father of U.S. Army veteran (Iraq) Timothy John O’Connor and father-in-law of Kimberly Ruggiero O’Connor of East Haddam.

Ray was a graduate of the University of New Haven with a degree in manufacturing engineering. He also attended Yale University for many advanced courses in engineering. For many years he worked at Gulf United, then Milford Products, and then the Sandvik Corporation in Branford as the plant manager. He was also a proud member of the Army National Guard. He was part of controlling the demonstrations on the New Haven Green during the ’60s riots. After his retirement, he worked for 10 years at H&R Block as office manager.

Ray was predeceased by his sister Carol O’Connor-Burke. He is survived by his brother Brian and sister-in-law Moon, who reside in Virginia; his sister Mary Donohue and brother-in-law Jack Donohue from Huntington; his brother-in-law Jack E. Lynch of Stratford; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Ray loved working with his vast collection of tools. He could repair just about anything. He also loved reading the newspaper, especially the New York Times, and enjoyed listening to current news and political commentators. He also had many cats over the years. He loved listening to oldies but goodies and watching movies about World War II. There is an old Irish saying: “We should not feel bad about getting old, many people don’t get the privilege.”

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 19, at the W.S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main Street, Branford. Burial will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery in Branford.
