Killingworth

It is with heavy hearts we regretfully announce the passing of Katrin Carlson Walton, 77, of Killingworth on Jan. 7. She passed comfortably in her home, surrounded by her loving family.

“Trin” was predeceased by her husband and friend of 49 years, David L. Walton, and is survived by her son, Michael D. Walton; her daughter, Suzanne E. Lio (Matthew P. Lio); her two granddaughters, Autumn M. Walton and Leah E. Walton; and an exceptionally large and loving extended family—she was one of nine children born to Reginald and Dorothea Carlson of Higganum. And she is survived by a lifelong circle of friends who were an indispensable part of Trin’s support system—and to whom she was a fierce, deeply loyal, loving friend in return.

A dedicated educator for 43 years, Trin’s job as a Killingworth Elementary School teacher was as much a hobby for her as a vocation. Before her retirement in 2010, Trin had in some cases taught three generations within a single family. She was a multi-year recipient of Regional District 17’s Teacher of the Year, as well as a 2017 inductee to the HK Hall of Fame, honoring her commitment to the service of children and her outstanding record of service to the community.

To honor Trin’s love of grass-roots volunteerism, and in recognition of her service within the community, her family asks that donations be made in her memory to the organizations that benefited most from her energy, experience, time, and treasure: Killingworth Historical Society, Killingworth Evergreen Garden Club, and/or Shared Harvest Community Garden c/o Town of Killingworth.

A joyous celebration of her amazing life will be held for her family and friends at a date and location to be named in the spring.

Arrangements are by Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, Centerbrook.
