Robert M. Gullans, 89, of Branford died Oct. 4, at St. Raphael’s Hospital in New Haven. Robert was born Oct. 14, 1931, in Branford to Carl and Helen Eastwood Gullans, Sr. He was the youngest of three sons. His brothers were Carl E. Gullans, Jr., and Bruce W. Gullans, both deceased. Robert attended local schools and graduated from Branford High School in 1950.
He joined the U.S. Navy right out of high school and served on the Destroyer Escort USS Snyder during the Korean War. After completing his enlistment, Robert worked for the Post Office in Branford as a letter carrier until he retired in 1986. In 1955, he married Madelyn Welch of Branford and together they raised two sons.
In Robert’s spare time, he enjoyed restoring old furniture and being outdoors, doing different projects around his house and yard.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Madelyn Gullans of Branford, and two sons, Robert C. Gullans of West Haven and David J. Gullans (Patrice Marlowe) of Branford.
There are no calling hours; burial will be private at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Dan Cosgrove Animal Shelter.
