Carol Jean Heyl Titcomb, born on Dec. 27, 1951, passed away on Sept. 21. Carol loved her family, friends, and music.

After graduating from Lowell State Teacher’s College in 1973, she started her career teaching elementary band in the Methuen, Massachusetts. In 1979 when her first son was born, she became the organist/choir director at the Tewksbury Congregational Church. After moving with her family to Branford in 1987, she resumed teaching elementary music at the John B. Sliney School in 1997. In 2007, she changed schools to the Walsh Intermediate School to teach both band and classroom music until her retirement in 2017.

She was an active member of the First Congregational Church of Branford, leading the youth handbell choirs and playing in the adult handbell choir. She was the director of one of the church’s Killiam’s Point summer day camps Down by the Sea for 25 years. She was an active crafter and baker making many items for the church’s annual Christmas Fair. Carol was the cook for several of the church’s youth mission trips to West Virginia, Louisiana, and Kentucky. During summers, Carol enjoyed sailing with her husband Neil and family. Over the years, they sailed to Cape Cod, further up the coast to Maine, and after retirement enjoyed a seven7-month long sailing trip to Florida.

Carol is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Neil Titcomb; her sister Martha Roman of Westfield, Massachusetts; her sons, Chris (Katie) and Nate (Joy); and her adored grandchildren, Hailey, Sarah, and Charlie.

A memorial service will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the First Congregational Church of Branford directed to the handbell choirs or to camper scholarships for Killiam’s Point summer day camps.
