Killingworth

Yale J. Gordon, Sr., 77, of Killingworth passed away peacefully on Sept. 25 at Connecticut Hospice in Branford. He was predeceased by Carolyn P. Gordon, his beloved wife of 49 years, and brother Ronald Gordon.

Yale was born in Middletown on March 9, 1944, son of the late Irving and Estelle (Petscavage) Gordon. He was raised in Middletown and married Carolyn at St. Joseph’s Church in Chester May 14, 1966. Yale has been a resident of Killingworth for the past 52 years and served the community as fire commissioner of the Killingworth Volunteer Fire Company. He was a member of Saint Lawrence Church in Killingworth, where he served as president of the Parish Council. Yale was also a member of the Army National Guard, the Connecticut Model A Restorer’s Club, and Killingworth Investment Club and a founding member of the Killingworth Taxpayers Association.

Yale enjoyed a successful career in sales and marketing, where he specialized in package design, operating his own company for many years. He loved working in his yard, spending time with family and friends, traveling, listening to music, and attending antique car shows and performances at Goodspeed Opera House.

A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, family was the center of Yale’s life. He leaves his children, Yale Gordon, Jr., and his wife Alisa of Killingworth, Mark Gordon and his wife Kelly of Narragansett, Rhode Island, and Suzanne Sosnowski and her husband Matthew of Haddam. He will be missed by his nine grandchildren, Zachary, Haley, Michelle, Leah, Jack, Ben, Maya, Sophia, and Emma. Yale also leaves behind his brother Glen Gordon, sister Jennette and her husband Thomas Czypiga, as well as his friend and companion, Lynn Marcotte of Killingworth and many others.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 30, at the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main Street in Centerbrook. The family kindly requests that those attending please wear a mask. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 1, at St. Joseph’s Church, 48 Middlesex Avenue in Chester. Burial with the rendering of full military honors will follow in Saint Joseph’s Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Yale’s name to St. Lawrence Church in Killingworth or The Connecticut Hospice in Branford.
