Ivan E. Zastrow, 86, of Killingworth, beloved husband of Gertrude Swarat Zastrow, passed away peacefully on Sept. 1, at Aaron Manor in Chester. Born in Leaf Valley, Minnesota on June 27, 1935, he was the son of Ewald and Florence Kalpin Zastrow.
Ivan received a wrestling scholarship to attend the University of Minnesota and later enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, while stationed in Reno, Nevada as a survivalist trainer. He was a tool and die maker for Carling Technologies in Plainville for many years until his retirement.
Ivan enjoyed being active. He climbed the Grand Teton Mountains every summer and golfed and played tennis. He was an avid Minnesota Viking fan. He loved traveling cross country with his wife in their R.V. Ivan was inducted into the Wrestling Coaches Association Hall of Fame in Minnesota in 2014.
Besides his wife Gertrude of 65 years, he is survived by his two children, Ivan A. Zastrow and partner Penny Harrah of Killingworth and Jacqueline Jazo and husband Preston of Westbrook.
A private service with the military honors will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Killingworth.
