Marjory “Marge” Perkins Trowbridge, 89, died peacefully on July 23, in her home surrounded by her loving children and one of her beloved golden retrievers. Marge was born July 1, 1932, in Passaic, New Jersey to the late Wilder and Phoebe (Harrold) Perkins.
Marge graduated from Green Mountain College in Poultney, Vermont in 1952 with an associate degree in merchandising. She married Richard “Dick” Trowbridge, her beloved husband of almost 63 years, in 1955. Together they lived happily in Long Island; Madison, where they raised their two children; and Springfield, New Hampshire, where they retired and spent much time playing tennis, traveling, and raising and showing many golden retrievers.
Marge was a kind woman with a beautiful smile and a great sense of humor. In 1970, after getting her first golden retriever, Marge quickly fell in love with the breed and slowly began to purchase, breed, and train more goldens. Over the years, she spent many a weekend showing and getting obedience degrees for her various precious dogs. As Marge continued to build her “golden kingdom” under her kennel name Trowsnest Goldens, her name and reputation in the golden retriever world became well known. It seemed many people wanted one of her puppies and she was eager to help and teach those interested in the breed. Notwithstanding, when Marge was not busy with her dogs, she enjoyed many an hour playing tennis with Dick and traveling the world. The Barn Playhouse in New London, New Hampshire was a summer favorite for Marge and Dick, as well as spending time at the Lake Sunapee Yacht Club and attending Dartmouth football games.
Marge was predeceased by her husband, Dick; her parents; and her brother, Stanley Perkins.
Surviving family members include her son, Rick Trowbridge and his wife Tertia, of Madison; daughter, Page Gyatt and her husband Doug, of Woodbridge, Virginia; and grandchildren, Ryan Trowbridge and wife Emily, Alex Trowbridge, Phoebe Trowbridge, Doug Gyatt, Jr., and wife Kelly, and Ashleigh Gyatt. She is also survived by her sisters Debbie Perkins and Susie Casella and their children and grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 28, at Chadwick Funeral Home, 235 Main Street, New London, New Hampshire. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to Sunshine Golden Retriever Rescue and Lake Sunapee Region VNA & Hospice.
