Josephine (Taffare) Marshall, of Chester passed away peacefully on July 3, surrounded by her children at her home in Chester. She was a beloved mother of 10 children, grandmother of 29,e and great-grandmother of 10. Josephine was born in Brooklyn, New York, on May 16, 1928, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Ruggiero) Taffare.
She had been a resident of Chester since 1964 and was a working mom as a nurses’ aide, store manager, and support staff for Brian House, Inc., as well as the loving matriarch of the Marshall family. She was a daily communicant at Saint Joseph’s Church in Chester and had served the parish as a eucharistic minister, and teacher of the RCIA program. She was a member of the Third Order of Mary, and the Legion of Mary, and a longtime friend of Brothers of the Beloved Disciple.
She is survived by her children, Dr. Bernard (Theresa) of Longmeadow, Massachusetts, Mary Marshall Crim (John) of Madison, Peter (ex-wife Deborah) of Deep River, Alice Marshall Wicke (Donald) of Portland, Thomas (Cheryl) of East Haddam, Steven (Patricia) of Old Saybrook, Deacon Timothy (Joan) of Lisbon, and Susan Marshall Jones (Robert) of Chester; 29 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Peter; her son Father Joseph Mary Marshall, S.M., Priest of Brothers of the Beloved Disciple; and her daughter, Ann Mary Marshall.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, July 7, at the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main Street, Centerbrook. Join us in celebrating her life at the Mass of Christian burial at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 8, at Saint Joseph’s Church, 48 Middlesex Ave., Chester.
